Ethereal Bloor West Village Residence
Warm golds against an airy palette give this Bloor West Village home its sense of style and sophistication.
Who would believe that when we first came to this project, the space felt heavy, dark and weighed-down? A lighter palette with a pop of colour, plus plenty of styling, transformed it from drab to bright and airy.
Our first step was to paint the room white, a simple change that dramatically improved the atmosphere. This client is a fan of colour, however, so we built up rich blue tones through the artwork, pillows and accessories. Warm golds from the modern chandelier and the display accessories bring another pop of contrasting colour.
What appears to be a chaise sectional is actually a sofa with an ottoman that can be moved around for extra seating as needed. The nesting tables boast the same versatility—they can be tucked together or extended for additional table space when entertaining.
To keep the space open, we favoured floating shelves with a styled display that adds personality and ties the room together. This client loves books, and we were able to incorporate them into the display cleanly by removing the busy dust jackets in favour of the simpler hardcovers.
A tv cabinet from Ikea provides much-needed hidden storage to keep the room clutter-free. The floating cabinet contributes to the airy feel, plus leaves space below for an ottoman to tuck below. As well as adding a woven texture, the ottoman provides additional seating and is great for kids.
We focused heavily on styling for this project, which is what gives the space its finished, polished quality. The mirror echoes both the metallic finish and the geometric style of the chandelier. On the display shelves, we build up additional flashes of gold and blue, along with some greenery and personal items. This styling is continued in the items on the coffee table, creating a consistent flow and style.
