Welcoming Ajax Residence
This family home in Ajax showcases an accented dining room, seamless storage solutions and some creative budget-saving custom looks.
This family of three called us in to help make their new Ajax house into a home. We balanced storage, colour, functionality and simplicity for a space that met their needs and reflected their personality.
Keeping the space practical and child-friendly for this family was a major focus. We used durable fabrics and finishes and chose a low coffee table with no sharp edges. The knit ottoman and woven baskets add texture while also hiding kids toys to keep the room free of clutter. There’s additional storage to be found in the wall cabinets, floating cabinets and wall-mounted shelves.
The clients had just moved in from a condo and needed to replace a lot of their small-scale furniture. We came up with some creative design solutions for a cohesive transformation that worked within their budget.
For the living room, we mounted an inexpensive Ikea cabinet and a floating shelf onto a wooden panel for a custom feature wall. The cozy textures of the rug and pillows make this an inviting space for the family to cuddle in together to watch a movie.
On the opposite side of the room, accents of colours and textures make the dining area bright and casual. The black metal on the light fixture and mirror is clean and simple, but the geometry adds so much visual interest. Styling elements like framed prints, textured display items and natural wood accessories give the room its completed, polished feel.
In the bedroom, the full-height headboard made of vant system panels is another example of a custom look created without spending a lot of money. The height and drama of this feature on top of the warmth of the wood planks on the wall balance into a bedroom retreat that’s calming yet sophisticated.
